Using Live Events to Build Your
Most Valuable Asset... Your NETWORK!

by Casey Eberhart

The power of face-to-face contacts is still unmatched, even in the digital age when relationships can be made with a single click. Attending live events is a profitable way to grow your network and build deep connections. You may greatly accelerate your business development by deliberately attending and taking part in these events. Be on purpose and intentional while attending events and the returns can be massive.

Why Live Events Matter:

  • Authentic Human Connections: In comparison to internet connections, face-to-face conversations build a deeper bond. You can build rapport, establish trust and leave a lasting impression.
  • Expanded Visibility: Live events provide you a stage on which to present your brand and area of expertise. You may establish yourself as a thought leader in your field by becoming involved.
  • Access to Decision-Makers: Important decision-makers and influencers frequently attend industry events. During these events, on purpose networking can lead to new collaborations and possibilities.
  • Learning and Development: Most events include seminars and educational sessions that give insightful information about best practices and trends in the business. (I learn so much from these "sessions")

Maximizing Your Event Experience:

  • Set Clear Goals: Prior to going to an event, decide what your goals are. Are you trying to grow your network, generate leads, or form partnerships?
  • Be Intentional with Your Networking: Do some homework on the guests/speakers and make any possible connections in advance of the event. (I like to buy the speaker's book and have them sign it BEFORE they speak... they often will highlight you)
  • Prepare Your Elevator Pitch: Write a succinct, engaging opening that emphasizes your special selling point.
  • Active Listening: Pay attention to the wants and desires of the other person. Ask meaningful questions and demonstrate true curiosity.
  • Follow Up: Keep your ties strong. Within a day, send a unique email to reintroduce yourself and indicate that you would like to carry on the conversation.
  • Leverage Social Media: Connect with other participants on social media by using the event hashtags, which will help you network even outside of the actual event.

Creating Your Own Events:

Organizing an event of your own is a great way to advance your networking efforts. This enables you to establish a platform for showcasing your business and select a viewership that is in line with your target demographic.

Additional Tips:

  • Dress to Impress: Your professionalism is reflected in the way you look. I often tell our mastermind members "How you show up is HOW you show up!"
  • Join Relevant Organizations: Participation in conferences and networking events can be facilitated by joining associations tailored to a certain sector. Go where your clients are already hanging out!
  • Volunteer: Your exposure and networking chances might be improved by volunteering at industry events. You can be the greeter for example. One time, I volunteered to get all the speakers setup before they went on stage and then one dropped and I got the slot!
You may create a strong network that supports your personal and company success by deliberately going to and participating in live events.

Remember that building deep connections that lead to new opportunities is just as important as gathering business cards.

Happy event going!
