Being clear on your business mission is a “must”, not a “nice to have”.  A mission statement is your purpose for the business you are creating. It focuses on a particular customer, and the need you will fulfill for that customer.

Here are some key questions for determining your mission statement.

  1. Why are you in existence? What is your purpose?

  2. Who are you going to serve?

  3. What services or products will you provide?

  4. How are you different from the competition?

The best way to capture your mission statement is to brainstorm 5-7 ideas under each question. Then, you pull out themes that you see among the brainstormed answers and write a statement that looks like this:

“To facilitate future entrepreneurs in identifying a side hustle that fits their skills and allows them to access their best life, in order to provide something of value in the communities they serve”.

The format includes 1) a strong verb of action, 2) the niche market you will serve, 3) the value you add to your customer, and 4) the end result of supporting your customer

Your mission statement should be meaningful to you, easy to understand by your customers, clearly articulate value, and use impactful words that give people pause!
